Intro
I have always loved cabbage. No matter if its raw, cooked or on what ever flavour it comes :) Some years a go I had to find a way to make dish that I love as vegetarian. It was an challenge, but I believe that this recipe did the job. Its not copy of taste of the original meat version, but its tasty and I believe its also nutritious. Also please note that I'm new on wrinting recipies. So please fix my mistakes while you are cooking.
Pre requirements:
Some oil
1,2 kg white cabbage chopped (also any cabage works and they can be mixed if wanted)
1 vegetable broth cube
1-1,5 l water
2 dl Textured vegetable protein (TVP)
1 dl red lentils
2 dl short-grain rice
0,5 dl syrup
1-2 cm ginger chopped
1 chili (e.g. Bird's eye, Prairie fire, Lemon drop... depending on wanted heat level. Also its posible to replace fresh chilli by using powder. About 1/3 tsp of medium strong chilli powder should be enough.)
1 onion chopped
3 garlic cloves chopped
salt to taste (1 tsp or more)
pepper to taste (0,5 tsp or more)
1 tbsp ground coriander
1 tsp paprika powder
Build:
Place chopped cabbage to saucepan with bit of oil. Fry about 5-10 minutes.
Boil water on separate saucepan. Add TVP, vegetable broth cube, syrup, ginger, chili, onion, garlic and spices. Let it boil for ~5 minutes for everything mix up and so that TVP soaks up the taste.
Add TVP broth to cabbage saucepan and mix.
Rinse rise and add it saucepan. Mix and boil until rice is close to ready.
Rinse red lentils and add them to the mix.
Heat oven to 175-200 celsius.
Place cabbage/rise/TVP/lentil/spice mix in baking dish and bake in oven about an hour.
